Continuous Fans (dMEV)
What is a dMEV fan?
Decentralised mechanical extract ventilation fans (dMEV), commonly known as continuous extract ventilation fans, provide constant low level background ventilation to wet rooms (bathrooms, kitchens, etc.), with a boost feature as and when required. Because the fan is always running it provides 5 times more ventilation than intermittent, helping to protect homes against condensation, mould growth and ensure quality air is always circulating.
How does it work?
dMEV fans work by continuously extracting air from rooms in your home at a low rate and boosting when required – either by an independent switch or automatically via humidity sensing. This constant ventilation helps reduce steam and smells created by everyday activities such as bathing, cooking and showering. It helps promotes effective ventilation which can help create a healthy living environment and reduce the symptoms of asthma and other health conditions.
What do I need to do?
dMEV’s are low maintenance, low energy, low noise, decentralised mechanical extract ventilation fans. The system is installed and set up for you. It will run in the background and boost when showering, cooking, etc. You may have an additional means of manually boosting the unit by using a switch in your kitchen or bathroom. The unit MUST remain switched on at all times to keep moisture and Humidity levels acceptable.

INTERMITTENT VENTILATION
Ventilation fans are essential for removing moisture, odours, and stale air from enclosed spaces like bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms. Here's how to use them correctly:
When to Use Intermittent Ventilation:
During or after showers - to remove steam and prevent mold or mildew growth.
While cooking - to eliminate cooking odours and grease.
How to Use a Ventilation Fan:
1. Turn it on: Locate the switch or button that controls the fan and turn it on. For bathrooms and WC’s locate at light switch for kitchens locate switch marked extractor fan or cooker hood.
2. Ensure proper ventilation: Make sure there are no obstructions blocking the fan's vents or the exhaust outlet.
3. Clean regularly: To maintain optimal performance, clean the fan and its vents periodically to remove dust and debris.
4. Air Flow Ventilation needs a flow of air to work correctly. Do not block gaps under doors and keep trickle vents on windows open when needed to ensure your property has adequate air flow. Ensure fan grills are kept clean and free from dust.
5. Maintenance ensure that ventilation is not blocked or crushed in open areas such as loft spaces.
Remember: Regular maintenance and proper use of ventilation fans can help prevent moisture-related problems and improve indoor air quality.
