DIRECTOR STORIES
Career progression is something really important at Daly Group, we invest in our team and encourage them to continually strive and achieve.
Our Commercial Director, Operations Director and Contracts Director, all began Daly Group life as Apprentices!
Commercial Director
Ian Hudson

Having previously undertaken my apprenticeship with Daly Group, I re-joined the Group as an Electrician in 2010.
My dedication and passion for detail, soon saw me earn my role of Contracts Supervisor, which soon after earned me my first large scale project.
Today, over 15 years later, I’m now responsible for the strategic development and expansion of the business; overseeing the Estimating, Surveying, Procurement, Health and Safety and Customer Care Department as the company's Commercial Director.
Operations Director
Gavin Whiley

I started an apprenticeship with Daly (Group) at the age of 16 when the company was a small group of 2 electricians and 2 apprentices.
Over the last 22 years, through hard work and perseverance, I have progressed through from apprentice to electrician, earning approved status in 2010 and then taking on the role of Qualified supervisor in 2012, eventually onto become Operations Director running the electrical division.
During my time at the company, it has expanded to include a mechanical division and with that a much larger range of apprentices have been able to train in both mechanical and electrical as well as administrative staff in the office.
Each apprentice is given the same opportunity as me to learn and progress as far as their ambitions and work ethic will take them. The company highly values the benefit that apprentices can bring and over the years many of the apprentice electricians trained at Daly Group have gone onto great things either within the group or within the industry.
Contracts Director
Jack O'Donnell

I started my career as an apprentice electrician back in 2003, working my way up the career ladder, with determination and a hunger to learn more.
I joined the Daly Team in 2013 as Contracts Supervisor where I continued to excel, and introduced apprenticeships to the Daly Group.
As the company evolved and grew, I became Contracts Manager, building on the success of my supervisor role with more apprentices joining us and our quality work on sites contributing to many developers winning NHBC Pride in Jobs awards. This led to me being invited to become Contracts Director, something I’m extremely proud of, and an amazing achievement for someone so young.

APPRENTICE WORK
WHAT OUR APPRENTICES SAY...
Sophie Jarvis
Level 3 Electrical Apprentice + Commercial Assistant
"I began work with Daly Group in 2019 in my mid 20’s. A prominent and deciding factor for me to join was when I had asked about future opportunities, and the response was that there are many additional courses and skills I can learn should I wish to advance.
Nearing the end of my electrical apprenticeship, I also covered additional Health and Safety courses, such as Fire Marshall training and a level three in First Aid.
I’ve had hands-on estimating training from one of the Directors, who also started his career as an electrical apprentice and now work as his Commercial Assistant. I also implemented a building training booths which are now used by our apprentices.
I feel confident about future opportunities I’ll have, due to Daly Group’s dedication to its employees."
Sophie is now fully qualified.
Ricky Putt
Level 3 Apprentice to Qualified Approved Electrician
"I Joined the company in March 2021 following completion of my Electrical Diploma at College. Daly Group took me on as a Level 3 Electrical Apprentice and provided me with the opportunity of gaining an industry recognised qualification alongside work experience.
I had my own mentor, who I worked alongside for the first year. He shared his own knowledge and experience, which enabled me to become competent to work independently, with further supervision from other sparks and our Electrical Operations Director, Gavin Whiley.
My mentor also started as an apprentice and is now one of the Electrical Supervisors overseeing site electricians and electrical apprentices.
I completed and passed my AM2 final exam.
I would 1000% recommend an apprenticeship as an alternative to other educational options, having gained the skills to now be a fully qualified electrician supporting my own apprentice."
Logan Baxter
Level 1 Plumbing Apprentice
"I joined Daly Group in April 2024 at the age of 17 years, following in the footsteps of my older brothers as the third generation of plumbing apprentices in my family working for Daly Group.
I have been paired with an experienced, patient and supportive qualified plumber, who is training me 'the Daly way' and I hope to remain with him until I’m fully qualified.
I feel that learning by experience and being an apprentice, is definitely the right choice for me - I’m enjoying work and looking forward to my future and career with Daly Group."
